How the morning fits together

Expect a pre-dawn collection and a launch decision around dawn, subject to the pilot’s weather assessment. Your pickup time depends on the camp and launch site; a lodge name without its actual location is insufficient for a reliable transfer plan. Ask whether collection from your camp is included and who returns you after breakfast.

Do not put the flight on your last available morning if ballooning is a priority. A weather cancellation is easier to manage when another morning remains, although neither replacement space nor suitable weather is guaranteed. Obtain the cancellation, refund and rescheduling rules before payment.

Park entry is a separate question

The Governors sheet describes a specific arrangement for its guests staying outside the reserve who enter only for ballooning and leave after breakfast: it says they do not need a park ticket. It also says a game drive after the flight requires a park ticket. Confirm that your own itinerary and operator qualify; this is not a general exemption for a full safari day.

If your camp quote already includes reserve entry, ask how ballooning affects that day’s charge. A conservancy fee, a reserve ticket and a balloon landing fee pay for different things. They should appear as separate, intelligible items.

Who should choose it?

Choose the flight for broad views, dawn light and the experience of moving above the plains. Keep the money for additional nights if your priority is patient wildlife observation from a vehicle. A balloon follows workable winds; it cannot follow a particular lion or promise a river crossing.

Ask the operator about basket access, standing requirements, landing position, minimum age and any medical restrictions. We have not verified a universal child age or weight policy, so do not assume that a child fare means every child may fly. Discuss pregnancy, recent injury or mobility concerns directly with the operator and your clinician.

What to take and what to leave flexible

Wear layers for the cold start, secure footwear and clothing that allows you to enter the basket as instructed. Keep camera equipment manageable, protect it against dust and follow the pilot’s guidance about loose objects and bags. Request the equipment and luggage rules for your actual flight.

Leave the rest of the morning loose. A long onward road transfer, a fixed airstrip check-in and a balloon activity are an awkward chain of commitments. Schedule a relaxed lunch or camp time after the experience and protect another proper game drive elsewhere in the stay.

Check the invoice currency

Ask whether payment is collected in US dollars or converted into another currency, and which conversion and card charges apply. Keep the dated quote alongside the booking. The published flight, landing and levy figures are useful only when the final invoice clearly explains any additional amount.

Questions & answers

Is the USD 400 flight the final April price?

No. The cited operator adds an adult landing fee of USD 80 and a non-resident community levy of USD 20, giving USD 500 before any required USD 5 cover.

Will I see a river crossing from the balloon?

No operator can guarantee that. Choose ballooning for the perspective and flying experience, not a promised animal event.

Does the quoted price apply in 2027?

No. This sheet is explicitly for 2026; obtain a dated quote for later travel.

Should I schedule ballooning on the final morning?

If it is a priority, an earlier morning leaves more room to respond to a weather cancellation. A replacement flight still depends on conditions and availability.
