Choosing a Kenya safari: begin with the landscape, not the headline
A practical way to choose a safari that matches your time, appetite for driving and idea of a good day.
A safari is not one interchangeable product. The feeling of a trip changes with the landscape, the number of nights, the hours spent on the road and the rhythm you agree with your camp or guide. Begin by naming the day you want to have, then choose the route that can honestly deliver it.
Choose one landscape first
Open grassland, river country, dry northern spaces and forested edges create different kinds of days. Start with what you want to see and how you want to move through it, rather than only following the most recognisable park name.
Protect the middle of the trip
A short safari becomes much better when the days on the ground outnumber the transfer days. If your time is tight, choose a closer route or fewer stops instead of treating every night as a change of scenery.
Ask your operator practical questions
Before you pay, ask about drive time, group size, vehicle space, what is included and what happens if weather or road conditions change the plan. Clear answers are more useful than dramatic wildlife promises.
